I got a big guy (trimac/Fh)...He is in a 90 gal standard...
He is quite massive in size at just a shy bit over the 13 inch mark now-
Mr problem being is he is one a rock substrate and is rubbing his chin raw-To the point where it is starting to bleed-I dont think he is gonna stop doing it either....

Would I be better off with useing a sand substrate with him-
He is a rock mover-So I'm worried about him sucking up sand-
He is a big fish mind you not-and is a total glass smasher also-So he movers quite fast frequently and stirs alot of water-
I have my filter in take located way about at the top of my aquarium-Do you think I'll have to worry about my xp3 sucking up the sand at where it is located....

Do you think that will help solve my problem if I switch this over to sand also...
N e input is greatly appreciated-He is my pride and joy-I dont like to see him in this condition at all.........

Here is a pic of him-

One can see that at the bottom where the pic part is (i call it his chin-lol)-it is starting to turn a bit white already in these pics-That is where I'm talking about-If that made n e sense at all even....

I'm would think that sand would be ok for substrate. If you are worried that it is going to get into your filter you can put a pre-filter on it (or just put something over the intake that will stop sand but allow water to pass).

But will it help solve his problem-Do ya think so or no.....
I dont want to switch it if I dont have to or if it wont solve ne thing...

I got filters comming out the wazzu n ehow....

If your gravel is rough it could be causing problems. I've got gravel in my tank right now and it's very smooth. I don't think that a fish could rub itself raw on this stuff, but you might have different gravel.

Sand can still be abrasive so you could try a bare bottom for a while and see if the wound heals. Once it is healed you could then add a different substrate, making sure that there are no problems.

Here's a picture of the gravel that I have:

Problem being-In my area to get gravel like that will cost me a fortune-
It's almost $15 for a 5 pound bag...And we all know 5 pounds dont go far....
I just use the basic "generic" garbage affered at LFS....And mine carries nothing of that sort.....But I guess I could go to a hobby/craft store and buy the decorative river rocks...But ouch-My wallet wont like that route either-----

Not sure on sand-Wish someone could answer this for me-

Stuff is not cheap in my area...So the less hassle I have at switching this all up is better and alot cheaper....
