Im just curious im looking at setting up 2 tanks on those iron stands that hold 2 tanks, im just curious because of their construction can they hold the same size tank on the top as well as the bottom.
In my case a 30 gallon on top but what size will fit on the bottom? Another 30?

Thank you in advance. hope this makes sense. since i just had to pull an all nighter and im a little groggy after 2 hours of sleep.

You must first measure the space on the bottom to see what the height is.
You may not be able to fit another tank on the bottom due to the height
limitations. Get your ruler out. Also when measuring, you must account for
glass tops and lights.:grinyes:

Well I dont have anything yet but i see a few for sale and im just going off the pictures, some of the stands have 30+" of height clearence.

Those stands work really good, I have a 20 gallon one and a 10 gallon one. The same size tank will fit on the top and bottom. I also have a friend who has the 30 gallon one and he has 2 30gl tanks on it, both full of rocks and it supports them very well. I have also been thinking about getting a 55 gallon iron stand so I can get another 55.

Thats what i was thinking you cant go wrong they are dirt cheap especially used and u can have 2 tanks and not take up an once more room. I cant wait to find a good deal on one of theses stands.

All that weight on 4 points?

I fear them. put a couple 30s on that stand thats 60g on 4 sq inches.. Thats quite a bit of point-loading on a floor. if your floor is cement thats fine, but when you are looking at wood over floor joists... I am not so sure.

lets see 500+ lbs of water / 4 posts thats over 125 lbs on a square inch of wood. I dont like those odds.

Someone tried to git ma a dual metal stand for 55g tanks just yesterday. I turned him down. thats over 920 lbs on 6 points.

I would much rather distribute that weight. not concentrate it.

Buy a piece of wood and put it on the floor under the stand to distribute the weight one your floor boards. Hell you can even trim it, stain it, and throw a coat of varnish or two on it and call it art.
