? about those iron stands that hold 2 tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine are on wood floors and it has been in the same place for well over 10 years and no problems at all. It is only 2 20gl tanks though.

I have one of those stands. On the top, I have a 30 g and on the bottom I have a 10g and it is sitting on a wood floor, and I have not had any issues.

I am going to get a dual stand myself, for 30 gallon tanks, I will be putting a shorter tank on the bottom(like a 20 long) or else it would be a little difficult to reach into for cleaning ect.

Is your stand one of the square tube type- or the 1 square cm steel stock type? I've seen two w/ the smaller steel "bow" out the sides-I would be very concerned about falure of the stand at that point.

my home-made square tube 1.5inch-and is not going to bow...Shoot I could park my trooper on the thing and it wouldn't bow

All that weight on 4 points?

I fear them. put a couple 30s on that stand thats 60g on 4 sq inches.. Thats quite a bit of point-loading on a floor. if your floor is cement thats fine, but when you are looking at wood over floor joists... I am not so sure.

lets see 500+ lbs of water / 4 posts thats over 125 lbs on a square inch of wood. I dont like those odds.

Someone tried to git ma a dual metal stand for 55g tanks just yesterday. I turned him down. thats over 920 lbs on 6 points.

I would much rather distribute that weight. not concentrate it.

You speek my language! :woot: Math: the universal language

I promised myself that I wouldn't post this until I finished...but since I posted a sneek peak already...

i think as long as you have a wider tank on the bottom, it should be alright =) I guess it wouldnt be much different from poor quality LFS :P
