so i built a diy phyton just like ever one else does, the one off cichlid forum.com

anyway it fills nicely but the suction is crap, my faucet has good pressure,
i even tried to use the out side hose still crap

so i am wondering if anyone has had the same results with the diy phyton and if so ........
here what im looking for
.... have you gone out and bought the real one?

im wondering if the real one will be any different from the diy one

before a i lay out the cash for the same results

sooo let me know what you think

I like the hose out the window, and hauling buckets across the house personally..:grinno:

I dont like that way cause its slow and wasted alot of water..

I bought the real one straight out. I love it. You shouldn't waste water as you are only supposed to use the faucest to start the siphon and to fill tha tank. Speed and efficiency of the siphon all depends on height of the tank in relation to the sinkl. Most of the time I just drain it into my basement sump. They work great for indoor tanks.

I only use the pump to drain the hose when done, or if I have to empty my sump. Like the other guy said,,, don't waste water.
When draining, I just let it water my plants outside. That usually means getting an extension so it can reach. Then I hook the pump back on to the hose & with a quick disconnect attached to the pump and my hose hookup outside, I just snap the pump on to the faucet. Fill it back up, go out and open the pump and drain the hose as I'm reeling it back up.

As for starting the siphon, you don't need the pump either. I'll try to explain.

As long as the rest of the hose is below the level of the tank, take the gravel tube and completely submerge it. Turn it upside down so all the air comes out and it fills with water. Also make a U shape with some of the hose (about a foot or so) along with the gravel tube. Now just lift the gravel tube out of the water still upside down and the weight of the water will push itself down the hose. When the water level in the gravel tube gets close to the hose, quick put it back under water to fill the tube again and bam,,, instant siphon. No sucking, no running back to the pump or sink. It's good to go.

Now,, if you have another tank to do,, just turn off the valve on the python, hold the gavel tube upside down so it can hold water (about half full), take it to the next tank, submerge the tube so it (still upside down) let it fill back up and open the valve. Now you're draining the next tank.

If you can’t picture what I’m saying, let me know and I’ll get some pics for you and walk you through it.

I love my real python, but if I dont keep the water running while I am draining the tank, it would take days or ever weeks to do so, but maybe thats because my sink is "too high in the air" ?....
