About to get my first piranhas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
fish can last a while while transporting. you can use a battery powered air stone to extend the time. but a few hours should be fine. just use a largeish bucket or container. don't cross state lines with illegal fish.

I'd never cross state lines with illegal fish, all conceptual. Thanks for the feedback, I'm thinking 4-5 super reds.

I used to live in CT, have relatives there. I know in the 80's some petstores had piranhas, but after that all of the stores I know of stopped selling them. The state is a little funny. If you go to your LPS chances are they'll tell you they can get one for you, but if you ask a DEP official for instance they will probably tell you no you can't buy one. But then again those type of officials will tell you you cant buy anything that is potentially dangerous even if there isn't a law on the books. So if there is a law against them its probably a loose one, one that isn't so clearly defined.

The Connecticut laws are so ludacris and generally unenforceable, however my LPS is law abiding, I've asked, I will be trying a few other stores but it may be a better use of time to take a trip to Rhode Island.

I remember it was on the CT news a couple years back that some guy got caught with a 6 foot alligator in his basement. For punishment he got a $60 fine, and alligators are obviously a little more dangerous than a piranha.

Unfortunately, Connecticut has carpet banned all 'exotic pets' so piranhas aren't quite legal here. I'm looking at a 1-2 hour drive to get some.

Aquascape shipped em to me they'll send em your way too.
