I have an EBJD for about 2 years. He's about 6". In the past he was ok with people around his tank. I took him out of my 46 bow and put in 55gal. All water parameters are fine. Currently he is in there with a 3 !/2" blue acara.
They are both completly terrified of me, but not so much my 3 year old. He can go screaming around the tank and they don't flinch. With my wife, they only spook when "snuck-up" on. If any one else comes near the tank, they almost pinball and go curl up in the corner.
Please help, I'm almost ready to get rid of my beautiful EBJD due to this. I don't care about the acara so much. Any thought's?

Did you check the water stats? Some times if the water is off fish will act weird. How long have they been in the new tank? So you have good places for them to hide. The more hide outs the safer they feel.

id say yeah how long have they been in there? maybe new surroundings you know? and although it sounds weird saying more hideouts it is tru e more hidouets if you dont want them hiding sue driftwood and plants and the only place they can hide is behind the driftwood if you position them just right so you cansee inside

Its just a phase. My Dempseys have been there. They'll come around. You might have to get more. Some fish do better in a small shoal. I have four. Don't give up! Find a solution.

Some of my fish (those that don't expect food every time) are always skittish when I walk right up to the tank. They're fine if I sit down a few feet away.

Thanks for the advice. I donated the acara to lfs. Now the EBJD hasnt pinballed since he's been alone. He seemed to be always keeping an eye on us and one on the acara.
I would like to get some tank mates tho. I was thinking about an ornate bichir? Other then that, I just can't seem to find another "unique" companion.

Ornate might not be a good idea, due to the potential size of the ornate (eating the EBJD and outgrowing the tank). I do rotate my midget senegal in and out of the tank my EBJDs are in though.
