About to order P (Gold Diamond)

if you want a sand substrate, you can pretty much make the decision based on what you think looks best... i prefer the natural look so i went with play sand, it cost me 5 bucks to fill my 75 gallon with it and i still have a bunch extra. i tried the pool filter sand, that cost me 7 bucks to fill the 75, but it just turned out too white for my taste.

the first set of pics are with the pool filter sand and then on a later page, there are pics of what it looks like now with the play sand in there.

i also like the look of black sand, but that stuff is just so expensive, i only use that on smaller tanks.
 
I like the kind of eerie look the pool sand gives the tank, but I don't think I could achieve that. Black sand does look pretty cool, but I'd rather have my P white, so I'm going with the play sand probably. People were saying something about having to soak the sand first in the aquascaping forum, do I need to?
 
you don't need to soak it, just rinse it really well
 
you can just put some sand in a five gallon bucket and then run a hose into it, hold the bucket at an angle so that the water can spill out and keep running the water and mixing the sand until the water starts to run out of the bucket somewhat clear. it takes some time, but it will save you from having really cloudy water initially and every time you do a water change or planting.
 
I ended up getting some cool looking brown gravel, got me some driftwood and plants, probably holding off on the P for a while though.
 
ZOOO stop iv been runnin fish for like 10 years and the iv had the best lookin tanks with white and black sand and i think all sand sucks its a pain in the ass to clean and it dosent look as good as u may think. my tank now is 125g, and it has a black background and black bottom wtih some slate rockes and fake plants look at my profile ull see thats the best and the eaist way for the p,s look at my pics ull see my ****
