ty for the pic so that i get an idea of what it looks like on oak, and thx for making that clear that tung oil and poly are just a top coat..also good idea on to test it out on scrap pieces of wood i will do that. I also try to keep the water in my tank lol and wipe up any access on the glass or the wood, thats good to know that commercial boats use tung oil, is tung oil avialable at lowes or home depot? and what do you guys use to stain with, rag? pad? or brush..... i was thinking of going with the pad for stain, and a brush for tung oil or poly?

All I do is sand the wood lightly so that you dont go too far into the wood that you start to see the red. Then I stain it twice and apply polycrylic from Minwax.

I love te look of black stands. Get some of the Home Accents latex paint. Goes on easy and looks great after it is finished.
