I have posted about my female gourami before and this post is about her again. She started to become larthargic and seemed not like herself. There is a some sort of growth on her fin against the body and her gills are still slightly gaping as though they never healed up. The growth happened about a couple of months ago and I have kept and eye on it and it has not gotten any bigger and she was doing fine. I now have her in a quarenteen tank and purchased some pimafix to treat her. Has anyone had any experience with this product? I am wanting to double check before I administer this med. Thanx

Is there anyone out there that can help me with my pimafix question? I have been looking on the internet for some answers while waiting for a response, but haven't found anything concrete. Is this product good or not good for gouramis? Will it be safe if I use it?

Do you have pics of the gourami in this condition? Did you look on columnaris? What are your water parameters?

No I do not have any pics besides it would be hard to see. It appears to be a small yellowish spec on the fin next to the body and have had the same problem with her gills, but now she is staying in one place mostly and resting on my floating plant(plastic) and is not as active. She is in qt now,but I have not put any of the pimafix in yet until I am sure it is safe for her and the correct med for the problem. My water perimeters in the main tank is 29 gal,78 degrees,6.8 ph,10 nitrate,0 ammonia. I have 4 danios, 1 male gourami and 2 female (one which is now in qt),2 peacock gudgeons, and 2 bolivian rams.

I use Pimafix and Melafix. I really like the results with those products.

I don't want to start a MelaFix war, but I hate the stuff and have read many publications from marine biologists who feel the same. You should find out exactly what's wrong with your fish and treat accordingly. Columnaris was a good guess on Lupin's part.

Id like to read them. It has seemingly worked when I have used it, but maybe there is something negative about it I don't know about?

Also, there is a newer "Marine Melafix" version. The active ingredient is 1.5%, instead of 1% like the freshwater version.

Thanks for all of your responses,I appreciate it. I have read on about the Columnaris disease and it does not sound like what my gourami has. No threads of hairy looking things coming out of her mouth just the yellowish nodual on her fin against her body that has not grown or gone away and her gill not fully healed (still gaping). I feel as though she is a sickly fish not like the other. I have had them since Feb. and she is the only one that has been having a problem, first with the dorsal splitting, the gill gaping, the brown spot on top of her head, the nodual on her fin,she also appears stunted in growth. So I am totally confused about her health and not being to pin point what the causes are. I know that it is not from the water conditions because I change out the water every 2 to 3 days, vaccum a portion of the gravel once a week and rinse out the filters. I have not treated her yet and the temp in the qt tank is 82 degrees. I am beginning to think that I should just keep changing out the water and see how she does from that. If I do use the pimafix am I suppose to use the melafix at the same time? Is there an easier, better way to cover all basis of her disease? I've tried the jungle jim's remedy before, but I don't think it worked that well. I don't want to give her too strong of meds in fear it might kill her in her fragile state. So what do you think?
