? about using pimafix

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The word 'growth' was why I initially guessed columnaris since most growths have been mistaken for fungus rather than columnaris when people should have realized columnaris is a very common and contagious bacterial infection caused by Aeromonas, gram-negative bacteria which thrive better in higher temperatures.

I haven't read anywhere else yet what species this gourami is. What species is it? From the sound of your latest post, her immune system must be very low to avoid too many health issues. What do you feed her? At this point, I do not feel the need to treat her until we can pinpoint the exact problem. Repetitive treatments with various meds will only make her worse and any possible pathogen more resistant to treatments. In cases where the problem cannot be treated anymore, euthanasia is the last choice.

Id like to read them. It has seemingly worked when I have used it, but maybe there is something negative about it I don't know about?
Also, there is a newer "Marine Melafix" version. The active ingredient is 1.5%, instead of 1% like the freshwater version.

Lupin, do you think it sounds like Lymphocystis? To the original Poster-there's some info about it at:
http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/management/Lawler_Lymphocystis.html
I've seen several Gouramis with it and 1 catfish. If it's a Dwarf Gourami you might also look up Dwarf Gourami Disease to rule that out.

Thanks for the info. I went to the site and read up on it,but the nodual did not break away or dissapear,it is still there. I woke up this morning and she was laying on the bottom of the tank (still breathing),so I did a 2gal change out of a 6 gal tank and went ahead and put in the pimafix. She was trying to swim a little, but is laying down again. I think I am going to lose her,but I will hope for the best. I don't think there is anything more I can do,but to make her feel comfortable.

i just got done using pimafix for a secondary fungus infection and it seemed to work i took over a week but it worked. I just didnt care for the suds and how dark my water got.

Well, thank you all for the efforts, but unfortunately my gourami has passed on. There was nothing more I could do for her. I did all I can. :rip

That's another possibility and it sucks to have a fish afflicted with it especially as it is a viral disease and most viral diseases are incurable. Since dwarf gouramis were often fed with foods laced with hormones to ensure gender change, their immune system weakens thus they succumb rather quickly to any pathogens.
