ABS pipe ok in aquariums?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its ok to use for fish tanks i plumed my ponds with it .....
some times you can only get the stuff you want in abs ..

no its not legal to use for drinking water, but it is plastic and is safe.
is it safe to drink from? yes, i think so, just not legal to "building code"

well just for the record the ABS pipe was only used for the drainage plumbing, not the water inlet. In Ontario either ABS or PVC conform to code for indoor plumbing, although ABS is restricted to 'above-ground' use and pvc for below-ground use.

I talked to a piping guy who explained the ABS has severely limited issues with pressure. PVC is used for pressurized systems where ABS is for free flowing liquids only.
