Class pets….can only lead to issues at times. But if properly kept can be very much educate you kids. Well I am a junior and my chemistry teacher keeps a 10 gallon tank in the back of the classroom. Here’s some pics of the horror.image.jpg

I have no idea. I’m new to the school. Apparently he’s had them for 5 years. Maybe I should wait until the end of the school year so he doesn’t fail me on purpose?

If I'm not wrong I see 2 tinfoils, 2 common golds, and 1 common pleco.
All of those can grow to the size of the tank, some might even get bigger.
This pic is from one of the threads on the forum I show this to people at the lfs who wanna buy 2" tinfoil barbs for their 10 gallon tank.
I think you should show this to your chemistry teacher. And tell him to check the nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, gh, kh, ph, ammonia, etc of that tank as it would be a cool chemistry project ?

My AP bio teacher had a ten gallon with 2 cories and a small goldfish (likely stunted) and lots of tiny plecos (never grew past an inch or two but looked like bn or common, maybe snowball, supposedly weren’t supposed to get large). Cory Cats and goldfish were fine, but the plecos eventually died, must have gotten too polluted for them.
I don’t get why the science teachers always have the most messed up tanks.
I agree that if you make it seem like a chem lesson it may save your grade…but yeah, best option may be to keep quiet about it…

Why do science teachers have the disgusting tank? Mine a few years back had a 36g cylinder tank from home. I’m not sure what fish were in there because there was too much Cyanobacteria. You could only see that, but in a way, it was pretty if you didn’t know it was for fish.

That goldfish on the right looks like it's straining to tell us something! We should start a caption competition. Maybe it's saying, "oi, Kolton13 Kolton13 , sod your grades, get us the hell out of here!"

Seriously though, this would be a great opportunity to educate your science teacher. Though, admittedly, you'd have to be extremely diplomatic about how you approach it. Lol.

Having kept a goldfish and a clawed frog over a year in ten gallons before I learned what frequent water changes meant…let’s just say it didn’t end well. Surprisingly, it took a while before it hit a toxic enough level to kill it… it it wasn’t pretty. Sometimes I miss being stupid about it though…caring takes a lot of work, and admittedly I still have a lot of work to do, especially if I want to keep the big monsters some day…though it is more fun when you do it right.
This is even worse than my ten gallon ammonia jar though…

I like showed him some of my stuff. Especially my stuff lately cuz I’m very proud of it. Hoping maybe he learns some stuff of what I can show him or maybe he’ll ask me for advice or something.
