AC 110 QUESTION.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am a single sponge guy with a bag of Purigen and a media bag filled with Pond Matrix. I rinse out the sponge with tank water every three weeks to a month and scrub out the plastic and clean the impeller at the same time. The AC110 is a great filter and easy to maintain.

do you ever experience an ammonia spike?

Nope, got 2 AC110s and 1 biowheel 350 on my 125g that are all packed full of biomax (in addition to filter floss/sponges)..... Ammonia stays at 0 and nitrates rarely reach 10ppm. IMO, the AC sponges are thick enough that I've never really felt that 2 are needed. I also only have 1 fish in there and feed 1 pellet at a time so no food is ever left sitting in the tank for longer than 2 seconds.

Dual sponges here too. I squeeze mine out in tank water every WC...it gets nasty with big cichilds, even with using prefilters.

Thanks everyone...good info

I got sick of running a sump so I went out and bought 3 of these for my 180. They are impressive and ive only had them under a week. I have a sponge and bio media in all 3. Biomax & Rings in two. Biomax & Bioballs in the other.

good luck with those , it should be plenty ..... btw , I found a mod to fix some of the bypass ,cut a piece of sponge to fit the little area above the big sponge and left of bio media ,you might have to clean it fairly often , but bypass should be less
