ac 110's and sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine was complete fail with Eco Complete, even with prefilter on the pickup tube, sponges and so on.

All my whispers and bio wheels are fine with the Eco complete sand but the AC 110 was just horrible. Even if the slightest bit of sand got disturbed it would pick it up and make a horrible grinding noise. I hope you have better luck than me, I threw mine in the garbage. Worst HOB I ever used, especially considering I had to silicone a crack in the pickup tube right out of the box.

get an AC filter sponge (I used an AC50 sponge, it worked fine) cut it in half, and cut a hole in it. Then slide that over the intake.

It's what I've done. I've got two tanks with Multipurpose sand. I may have to clean out my AC 110 though it's beginning to make the grinding sound.

you should be fine, but when you are moving your decorations around or cleaning...make sure to turn the filters off cause when you move decor around or if you clean the sand with a net, you could be kicking up sand particles and it gets sucked into your filter....

Thanks for the advice everyone.. looks like caution is the key im going to keep the intake high with sponges on them turn off filters when moving things around and hope for the best.
