I have an Aquaclear 70 that I bought brand new that keeps making a god awful buzzing sound. I thought it was picking up sand to I cleaned the impellor several times and even remove one of the extension tubes and it still buzzes off and on. So my question is there a fix for this or should I try to switch it out at Petsmart without a receipt? I have another 70 on the same tank and it doesn't buzz like this, it did when I first put the sand in but hasn't anymore. In a few months I'll be getting an FX5, so just need these to last a few months.

No lid on it and cleaned the motor and impellor several times. Its quiet this morning so I guess I need to find prefilters for it. Can I make one? Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. I just recently got my AC70 back in working order. What I did was unhooked the motor and cleaned out the impeller housing while pulling and pressing the impeller up and down to clean out any sand that was stuck inside the impeller shaft opening.

Do that for a few minutes and you should be in working order.

It's not making any noise right now. I did cut a piece of foam of the foam blocks you buy for aquaclears and fit it over the strainer tube. Not sure if that will keep the sand out or not but we shall see
