AC 70 or Aqueon 55/70 ?

I prefer the media options on the AC over any cartridge filter. You will quickly get the $20 difference back by just rinsing the sponge rather than replacing cartridges.

On my aqueon 30 and 20 that I have, I use a cut out piece of that blue filter media. When clogged I just rinse out in tank water. I also re-use and don't have to buy cartridges. I'm guessing the 55/75 can work the same way

Easy fix don't use the cartridges..... The aqueon 55/75 has lots of room for media no need for cartridges just toss a sponge in if that's what you use. I like it! Cheap great flow it's been pretty silent and motor and seals are inside the tank so no worry for leaky mess on the ground ! I do notice though the motor does not sit tight to the box so if water is below the line it won't get enough suction and when it's running and you do a water change it'll run below the line but I've noticed it actually leaks but you dint notice it with the water above it.

Don't get me wrong, I do prefer the AC as I have had an AC 20 that has lasted me over 20 years, currently running. Just wish they were more competitive in pricing

How long will the aqueon filters last? The aquaclears are good for 20+ years. Maybe that is why they cost a bit more.

Yea, have only had my aqueon 20 and 30 for about 4 years so can't speak to how long they last. Anyone have experience?

You probably have a loose piece of plastic somewhere. All my ACs, I've owned them from the 30 to the 110 have never been noisy haha I've owned quite a few. Unless sand got into the motor, if you replace the whole motor it may stop. The piece that holds the impeller may be messed up on yours

AC>ANYTHING my buddy had that aqueon and he didn't like it because of the cartridge system and that thing was noisy right out of the box. ACs as have been said are versatile in the media section and honestly are a breeze to maintain

Yeah I figured it might be sand. I did already replace the impeller to try and fix it, but no luck in reducing noise. I tried Vaseline on the little piece of metal the impeller spins on and it helped some.. I owned several AC 500s years back and never remember this issue which is why I bought the 110. I've done some research and seems to not be uncommon as there are several how to fix it videos on the net. Anyway they do work well, mine is just really loud. I'm actually debating just replacing it for another fluval 406 on my 75...

One thing I found that helps quiet impellers is using scotch tape, wrap it around your armature, but only like 2 wraps around at a time, then reassemble and try it repeat until its silenced, some impellers come from the factory off balance and therefore have a little wobble generating noise. Just an easy inexpensive trick
