ac110 actual flow rate put to the test. here are my results.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's interesting and kinda makes me want to test it myself, I would be curious to see how the water level in the tank effects it. I've got 2 AC110s on a 55G tank so it really isn't a big deal to me if it's pumping 300 or 500, it's over kill ether way. :D

Thanx for doing the test.
Just more information a guy can use for filter choice.
Not all that surprised the flow rate is not what the box says it is.
Too bad, in the corporate world, honesty is not the best policy.

Rant: HOB Impeller Noise...
There is no way they can`t make a HOB quiet, if that was a goal.
Materials available today could make dead silent HOB filters for not a great difference in price charged.
With ceramics and high quality plastics they could make these filters as quiet as they are easy to service.
Shame on all of them for not doing it right.

I concur that AC could add some higher tech components without much cost.

I have never experience any type of noise from any of my AC110's? I even still run 2 AC500 which are very old and still do a wonderful job.

Cool info! Thanks for taking the time and posting your results. Even at 300gph with only ~15watts being consumed, it's still excellent. The sponge block is huge on them and last years, they hold almost a gallon of water and can hold a large bag of bio media on top of the huge sponge. I do think ACs could be better in terms of finickyness of the impeller/pumps, the noise and top fitment, but as far as flowrate, reusable media and the flexibility of the darn things, they're the best HOB you can get.
