ac110 problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Problem fixed. The metal rod was slightly loose, pushed it down and it is now nice and tight. I replaced the impeller and it is working like a charm. Upon close inspection of the original impeller, there was a coating or film on it that I didn't notice at first and missed when I cleaned it. Don't ask me how! Feeling like an idiot right about now!!! I also found out why I didn't have good flow rate. The AC110 is connected to the Hagen surface skimmer. It was gunked up. Cleaned that and now the flow rate is running normal. Thanks for your input guys!:headbang2

Good to hear:) I have a noisey AC but it has part of the impeller missing LOL.

I have the same problem with my AC110. Can you guys show me how to take a part the impeller? I don't want to break it.Thanks.

At the bottom of the AC110 is a black square box (where the cord is coming out of - I forget what this is called), twist this and it will then slide out from the main unit (if I remember correctly the back of the corded box turns towards you when you are facing the front of the AC110). You will now have access to the impeller. Pull the impeller out (do not pull on the metal rod, this is permanently attached). The impeller then comes into two parts, the top blade (which is white) and then the magnet. To put it back together is the exact opposite of above.

Actually it is possible to remove the metal impeller shaft if you use a pair of pliers at the very top of the shaft after you remove the impeller. Just pull straight up with the pliers while holding the motor in your hand. My AC110 was doing a lot of screeching after a couple years (I'm using Colorquartz S-grade sand). The shaft was noticeably worn where the impeller rotates.
Someone from another forum suggested using an Eheim 2215/2217 ceramic shaft. The AC110 shaft is 0.115 diameter x 2.75" long & the Eheim shaft is 0.117 diameter x 3.4375" long. So I swapped them & it has been working great for about a year now. I just have to be careful with the intake tube removal due to the extra shaft length.
