AC110 w/two sponges

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also have two XP3's, each with 1.5 liters of Seachem Matrix and the biomax that comes with the AC110.

It's on my 125g.

Don't worry about the 2nd sponge sticking out of the water if you're using it for mechanical filtration. As long as you have another filter for bio-filtration.

All you're doing is restricting the flow by putting two sponges. The amount you restrict it is actually lessening it's effectiveness, not enhancing it. Drop a chemi-pure or poly filter on top of the sponge instead.

i just use one sponge and it does me good, does anyone find that the biomax insert always makes the water cloudy when you turn on and off your AC or mess around with them, i gave the biomax up, it always made me water mruky even when i didint touch em and it clogs my sponge so fast and with one sponge most of the gunk from the biomax just goes back in the tank,

you guys are rinsing your sponges with tankwater right ?

we have no chlorine in our water, so I rinse them in the sink, but yes, you are suposed to rinse them with tank water. I use 2 sponges in my ac110 and that is the only filter on my 55 atm and it provides enough bio-filtration as well for that tank (though it is undestocked right now). It provides GREAT mech. filtration, and on our other tank I have an ac70 with 2 sponges and an emperor 400 for bio. Both ac's seem to do great with 2 sponges, and are the best for mech. IMO.
