AC50 or top fin 60

Which would you choose for a 55 gallon ? My friend is deciding right now im leaning towards aqua clear but the top fin has an additional 100 GPH
Anyone ?

Edit he also has an eheim 2215 I set up for him 2 weeks ago. He wants more mechanical but he is only choosing between these two filters.
 
Well the top fin is crap, you can modify some to make it a better mech filter but IMO itsnot worth the money. You have an AC50, right? You've seen how inaffective a filter they are on your 20g.

I would tell your freind to not waste the money on either filter and save up a few more bucks and get a AC110, the only smart thing to do.

Aqua Clear all the way.
Topfin probably has more GPH because it holds much less media...
 
Yes go with the AC. I'd say the 110 the 70 is OK too. The smaller units never impressed me.

I figured out what was wrong with the ac50 it is all fixed now and working good. Ill see if I can budge him to get an ac70 (he's pretty cheap it took me a while to get the point across his eheim would not be enough mechanical. All the while he's asking me how I keep my water so clean I am like...

Under gravel filter
And of course an AC110

The other issue is he does not like changing water and does not have a gravel vac :(
 
Knowing Top Fin Fin Filters...it'll probably break down in a year. Go with the AC50;)
