just stole a AC110 for $20 bucks off craigslist, jus needed a little cleaning. My question is I will be running both the 70 and 110 on my 75 gal. What is the best way to setup, 70 with bio 110 with mechanical, vice versa, or a little bio and mechanical in both? Any past experience running to HOB would be great. Thanks.

whats a good bio to keep in there. the ammonia remover pack? or subsitute with something else.

pardon the noobish ques.

I run my AC110s as well as my AC70s with the bio rings (the ones that come with the filter0 in the bottom and the sponge on top. This is backwards from what is recommended on the box but I find this way I have much less bypass...

Im seeing now after looking online there is "BIOMAX" and "Ammonia Remover" inserts both look similar. They also make a ZEO-CARB insert, little confused on this one. Whats my best option? Thanks.

You don't need ammonia remover or zeocarb for day-to-day filtration. Ammonia remover is never needed in my opinion, and zeocarb is only necessary for removing medications or putting an extra 'polish' on already adequately filtered water.

Put as much biomedia as possible in the filters. The ceramic media is good, but anything with a lot of surface area will work (nylon scrubbers, polyester stuffing, etc.) Sponges do double duty as mechanical and biological filters.

I agree. Sponges in the bottom of each one & fill the remaining 4 slots with BioMax. The ammonia remover insert is nice for cycling with fish, but useless after the first month. Maybe a carbon insert in the 2nd stage of the AC70...

i wound up doing just that. sponge then two slots of bio-max

will have the ac70 set with sponge carbon insert and biomax insert.

have great water movement too, makes the plants sway a little too which is nice.

Actually ammonia remover during Cycle will hinder the process. You WANT ammonia during a cycle.
