ACA 2009 (Warning crazy load warning)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Next year is Milwaukee, Wi. The great lake areas have a high number of African lover, and they spend a lot at auctions.

Hey OP, I saw you taking some those pictures. Didn't realize you were on MFK. I met two other MFKers at the event.

What a great time. I only lost one fish out of about 35 too. Was really happy about that.

I had the highest bid for the Aulonancara Koenigsi out of the donated tank. I came home all excited about it. Wife's response "That looks just like all the other peacocks you have"

Thanks for posting the great pics, Kevin!

The Australoheros (Chanchito), Cichlasoma boliviense, Krobia xingu, Gymnogeo "Sarandi", and larger Dimerus in the pics are mine :)

It was fun at the conference but I'm glad I got home with minimal losses (a couple of heckelii that I bought at the auction)... and all of my show fish and auction pick ups in their tanks.

The water in Cinci was BRUTAL on my fish. I brought 30g of local (MD) tap but even mixing the tap I brought with the local made a couple of mine really unhappy. Ammonia is much more toxic in alkaline water...

I can't compain because I took home a couple of trophies but that balzani is an amazing fish (not even mine)...and it didn't even place. The balzani in the hobby are primarily from Paraguay. The Uruguayan race (like that one) have way more color.

amazing pics Ivevi... just unreal.. you do a splendid job of bringing that convention right to us... so we feel as though we were there enjoying those magnificient creatures... thanks so much

Thank for the kind comments. Did anyone use heaters on their tanks? I didn't dry mine off after putting it in a bucket and when I came home they were already encrusted. I think they were saying it was ~400GH or something. Which was good for the africans but I think even the vics weren't happy.

I do have to say that this show was really well run. (I was especially happy that I didn't have to do any of the work this time around.) The only complaint was minor, ie the rental room was closed at 12 for some reason. (Ideally you get people drunk and sell them fish before they remember they have no room for new ones.)

I didn't take any embarssing people photos, but needless to say there were a few moments where I wish I hadn't been looking. I am sure some people will post stuff soon if they haven't already.

Yah I forgot about the auction. I loved the video camera. Now my club needs to figure out where we could fit a projector/screen. The problem is we already get short on space with everything. (Atlanta is having their fall auction next month.)

Wiscawnsin eh? Hmmm...thats a bit of a bummer. Was hoping it would be a mite bit closer this year. Oh wells.

Its probably never going to happen, but they need to have an ACA that is more focused on SA/CA cichlids! That would be spectacular!! All the ones I've gone to have been overrun by Africans...*sigh*
