Acanthicus Hystrix care tips and random facts

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, the Red Devil started picking on him again so now he's in his own 120 gallon for now.

He must have been stressed, now that he's alone he's doing better.

Forgot to add, natives call them Carachama Mama, I do not know if they differentiate between species. They mostly just eat them.

Any updates?

I am eyeing a L193 (Acanthicus Sp) recently and trying to learn more about this fish and it’s close family.

Updates. Still refusing veggies. Feeding Omega 1 algae wafers, NLS algae wafers, and occasionally some Hikari algae wafers I bought before I remembered they are crap. Is still eating wood as well.

Grows FAST. Is definitely territorial but the L191 easily hides from him.

So far only comes out at night, but if I sit near the tank he tries to spike me in reverse...

Sorry to slightly highjack the thread but I'm debating buying an Acanthicus Hystrix. I know they're very easy to differentiate from Adonis but can anyone tell me what the difference is between L155 and L193?

I think L193 is the more newly discovered Acanthicus but I'm hazy, it's been years since I read up on it. L155 is a pretend L-number, in that the species already had a name.
