tanks size ?

anything under 6 feet long tank mates are pretty much out most are very aggressive if your tank is longer then 6 feet you could try other large aggressive cichlids

in a 55 i wouldn't would end up in a fight to the death a male red terror would out grow your tank they get like 20'' and females tend to be the more aggressive one generally an very nasty cichlid in a much larger tank that would be a good tank mates along with other large aggressive fish

in a 55 probably couldn't have any tank mates it will most likely kill them not enough room for really fast moveing fish to swim around and get away and would fight with other cichlids but RD are great fish to keep usually very interactive with there owner alot of the time they hate there owner and would love to kill you but still fun to keep watch your hand when cleaning the tank when it gets bigger they like to bite

RD alone will be ok for a year or so in the 55 but a definate no on some mates. RD will get to big as in length not body size because they are a fairly slender cichlid but grow 13" long and I would recommend anything above 10" in a 55. RD will grow to 10" in a year so keep watch out for a new home for him.

Personally return the RD and get a Midas way cooler beast. 5x more owner responsive and grow nice a chubby and just look badass. I have a 12" RD male who is just a wimp though he is somewhat owner responsive. RD's are cool but midas is the way to go.

It's most likely a cross anyway unless you got it from a true A labiatus breeder. Is it a male? If so, it can fit in a 55g but that's too small a tank. He'll go insane and kill everything and probably turn into a glass banging maniac. Imo it's not fair to him, they need a least a 48" x 18" footprint. Putting any other fish in with him is a death sentence for one of them. my2

No cichlid tankmates for sure, but you might be able to put in some dithers or catfish.
