Accidental Tang

Thanks! I'm really liking these Tangs. I've been reading around and it looks like a pair of Calvus or Comps would be perfect addition to the tank for keeping the numbers down. Now to see which one I want. I'm really liking the white calvus. Would go great with the black sand.

32 fish now. In 3 months you will be looking at 232 fish. Daffodils are very communal. That first set of babies will get a little bigger and the parents will lay more eggs. They will leave the babies alone. The babies will get a little bigger and actually protect the next set of fry. Then the parents will breed again and the two previous sets will help protect the next set of fry, and so on and so on....

Wow, definitely spot on with this one! I took a look today at the fry and some of them have gotten larger and already has the distinct dorsal fin. However, upon further investigation, I see smaller fry in there! It looks like the mother has spawned more under the rocks. Another Daffodils is also getting prepared to lay eggs. She's been digging under a rock down to the egg crate.

However, when I told my wife I was going to get a pair of Calvus to keep control of the population. She immediately said. "THAT'S MEAN!"

Never tell your wife these things. Couple of syno cats would help as well. And definitely turn the lights off at night to allow the cats to do their business...

For me it's better to tell her ahead of time so she won't be as shocked when she actually sees it going on. I've seen some Syno Petricolas on sale around here. I'll see if I can pickup a couple of those.

I have a couple of those. And honestly, I like them better than my 4 multipunks. They are much more active in open space and I like the white edging on the front of their fins....

Those daffodil are amazing...do you have any idea what shipping company they're from? I don't get it, mine are much larger than yours (I think) I know they've had fry before and they won't do it since I moved them into a LARGER tank. Also your cyps are amazing, mine still aren't showing any color yet but they're still little.

How big are your Daffodils? My males are actually quite large. They're about 4-4.5" not including the tail. The females are smaller at around 3". I'm not sure where they came from since I got them when I bought the tank. The Cyps are also quite large. They range from 3" to 5".

The crazy thing about daffodils is that they start breeding at about 1.5 inches. They are VERY prolific. First time I bred them was in a 15 gallon tank. Within a few weeks I had to upgrade the tank because they were way overcrowded in there....

Oooh, ok my daffodils are nowhere near that. One of my males is starting to reach about 2.5 inches, and he's got a massive nest in my tank. I should take a pic, it's pretty sweet. I can start to see color on him, but sometimes it's hard to judge the size of the fish from the pictures, you know?
