Accidentally gave my fish chicken breast

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've feed both my O's raw ( once) and baked chicken a couple times , never had a problem.
Sm amounts and just breast, minus the fat and as a treat .

chickens aren't mammals though, and their breasts are lean. Am I missing something here?

PS ... I wouldn't feed chicken to oscars so much as I'm asking for my catfish if that makes a difference.

I misread that one the first time, too. What he is saying is that he knows of some people that feed their bichirs chicken, but won't feed mammal meat because it is bad for their digestive systems.

Chicken (and a little bit of mammal) isn't bad to feed, just don't feed it as a staple. A little here and there to vary up the diet is fine.

It's not that mammal meat is bad for the dijestive process, it is do to the bad fat, that will eventually form deposits on the liver and other vital organs of fish cause they can't process it(neither can we-we call it cholesterol, aka saturated fat)

Correct. I was trying to keep it simple, and reiterate what NCStateFisher said without further complication. But, you are right. :)

I'm just curious how you thought chicken breast was talapia. They will be fine though.

one of my old RTC used to love raw chicken breast cut into thin slivers.... never had any problem with him. i dont think you should much of it at once, but definately good source of protein.

It's fine to feed animals unnatural things on occasion, and chicken breast isn't THAT unnatural in the first place. I found that my Oscar would get backed up for a day or two if the piece of cooked chicken breast was too large. But feeding a lot of vegetable matter will help things move along nicely. Green beans, algae wafers, etc. should be offered to battle any potential constipation. Otherwise, no harm in the long haul.
