Acclimate dat from brackish to fresh?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow! 1.010 is heavily brackish for an Indo dat! I'd expect to see a silver or NGT at 1.005 to 1.010, but didn't know Indos had that sort of tolerance. IME, fish are far tougher than your bacterial culture when it comes to changing salinities. You could probably do a drip method w/ airline tubing, gradually siphoning in FW from you tank into the bucket containing the fish and original 1.010 water. After several hours of acclimation, the dat should be ready for introduction into FW w/ no problems.

dripping is the best way to do it. When I first encountered Indo's I thought they were brackish and kept them at 1.010 for well over a year in which time they grew from 2 to 4 inches! Tough fish!
Please post some pics of your Dat soon!

When we were acclimating my friends back to fresh he just did it with his water changes. Less salt each time, but I take it you don't have a brackish tank set-up. So, I think a nice, slow and long drip would be alright. Try to drag it out for like an hour or something.
