acclimating a Snow Flake Eel

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Depends on what kind of "snowflake eel" you have.

If you have a G. Tile "Freshwater snowflake moray" then I'm actually not sure if its a good idea to keep it in marine conditions perminantly, but I'm not positive on that.

However, if you have a saltwater Snowflake, then basically raising the salinity .002/weekly with your water changes - until you reach your desired level is what you'll wanna do.

You really need to find out exactly what species it is & what SG it is in now.

the Eel is Brackish and its Dark brown with orangish yellow markings i also have a green spot Puffer un there. was wondering if i bought crushed coral that already has bacteria was better for the tank than trying to start new. i have regular gravel in there now i knbow i need to get that out.

I wouldn't put the puffer with a slow-moving fish like an eel. How large is the tank? Is it very heavily decorated, with hiding places for the eel, where the puffer can't get at it? What SG is the tank at now & what SG is the eel in?

I wouldn't do it then. The eel needs a deep cave where the puffer cannot get to it. I would also take a bet that your "brackish" tank wouldn't even register much on a hydrometer. Are you using marine salt? At this point, you should have your puffer near a medium-brackish level of 1.010, which roughly is 2 cups of salt/5g. You should not, of course just dump this much salt into your tank. You need a hydrometer ot measure the amount & raise the specific gravity no more than .002/week.

the Eel Hide in the Skull i will put more Rock in there for the Eel as needed. right now i have 2 table spoons of Marine salt per gallon. i mix it with water before i put it in the tank.

The eel you described is a G. Tile, which is the "Freshwater Moray".

I know they are brackish fish, however I am not sure whether they can live healthily in a fully marine environment.

I've already described to you how much salt your puffer requires & how to raise it. You need a hydrometer to measure it properly. Do not raise it more than .002/week or you will destroy your biological filtration.

With the amount of salt you have in there, it shouldn't take long to acclimate the eel to your tank if it is in FW right now. Your "BW" tank isn't much above FW as it it.
