its very frustrating to have them out and about and nice and stable with the lights off (where I cant enjoy them)...and then completely unstable and hiding when I flip the light on. Ive heard they will adjust in time and I try to keep the light on for a few hours throughout the day, but is there anything else I can do? I dont want to get rid of the slate hiding spots it just seems mean not to give them hiding spots...I already have a lowlight blue bulb on there would an LED setup be better for them? Or should I just be patient and let them get used to light over time? ideas appreciated!

my dats are the same way...try toggling the lights, off sometimes then on sometimes....also vary feeding time and less hiding spots..

mine is the same way .. i'm gonna try to leave the lights on permanently to see if they will eventually get used to it.

My days have hiding places n walls/bottom is black. 2out of3 are stable while the 3rd is black. O leave my lights on got 6-7hrs a day n they are slowly coming along (have had the dats for just over a month)

whats the big deal stable or unstable as long as they are feeding and healthy thats the main thing

so many people are so concerned about getting the tigers fully stable

when you buy them if you have done your research before buying you will know that IT NTT and NGT are unstable more often than not

this is the main reason most people want ST rather than the others listed above its not because they have better body shape or stripes its because ST stay stable nearly all the time nothing more
if IT stayed as stable as ST how many would be so desperate to get a ST over a 3 bar indo or what would even be the point in paying big money for a ST

most fish are more happy with the lights out its not just tigers its just tigers express there happiness in a different way = stable and unstable

we don't even know if stable = happy or unhappy

i have taken pure black IT out of there tank and put them in bags or polybox and they have turned fully stable in the bag/polybox this would mean they are unhappy when stable and happy when unstable

I'd agree with some of what T1 is saying. It's tough to know when IT's will be stable or if they'll ever be stable sometimes. I just moved my IT's to a 210g tank and DURING the move, most of them became very stable with bold stripes and very golden base colors. Most of the time, they are pale colored and pale striped. So when mine were stressed from the move, they became stable for some reason. I don't really get it, but I still love these fish.

this is what i am trying to say the nice stable colour maybe when they are unhappy or stressed

I speak for myself when I say "Stable is a big thing for me"

I have a black background and if my Dat stays black most of the time... hes a waste of space, cant even see him. Id rather send him where he will be stable and let him go for a cheap price (if happy means colors or happy means unstable.... I dont care n dont matter to me, its what I want to see in my tank :D).

So for me, as long as its parasite free and stays the colors I like.... its a potential prize fish (in general) :D

so you would be happy if your fish are stressed but look nice

if you have black background or drift wood the tiger will change its colour to blend into its surroundings as they are preds that hide and wait for prey a fully stable tiger that was bright yellow or gold wouldn't be that good at hiding so wouldn't eat that much in the wild

they maybe black all the time in the wild a fisherman comes along catches the tiger at which point it is stressed and turns stable who knows for sure

All fish are stressed out in our tanks/ponds... no matter what the size (just like we get stressed out in our own house's). Its not their chioce to be in our tanks. Some do better than others... So for this reason, its my viewing choice on who stays and why. In the Datnoid Cases... must be Stable or will be packing his things :D.

I am sure they do as you probly have more expertise with fish than I do;).

I actually own a extremely stable IT Dat @ about 4" (have had him for a few months... maybe 8??) and he is in a all black tank (walls & bottom were painted black) with lots of decor. Bright light and lots of tankmates. He sometimes greets us at the tank then bolts away Lol. He seems to like cruising and sometimes he hides but not much.
I sure hope he stays this way forever:headbang2
