Hey guys,

I just picked up a giraffe catfish from a fellow member. He is currently in my 210 and he's hiding a lot. The previous owner had him in a smaller tank with no decorations. He said it was a pretty voracious eater. I have not seen this in him. He hides all day and only comes out at night.

Has his instincts kicked in since he has decor to hide in now, which is why he hides all day?

I have thrown in market shrimp, NLS pellets and bloodworms. This is the second night he's been in the tank. The tank has been running for about 8 months or so now. Water temp is 82 degrees.

Any ideas would be great!

Well he could just be scared right now and just needs to settle in a bit. When i got some native fish last week, they didn't eat for a couple days then started getting used to me. Eventually they started to eat, so just give it a bit of time.

My friends Giraffe Cat acted the same way until he put some more Cats and Plecos in the same tank. He's out alot now compared to before. 2 days is not enough time either. Allow him time to get adjusted to his surroundings. Be sure and feed him just before lights out if is hiding alot, and make sure what you feed him is getting eaten. What are his tankmates now? 82 is fine.

I threw some frozen bloodworms in the tank last night and they were gone this morning. I'll definitely see about adding some more cats to the tank to see if he explores a bit. Would syno multi's be okay with this guy? I'm just afraid they'll out compete him for food.

I'll give it a few more days.

Looks like he's been coming out at night and feeding on pellets. I'm gonna throw in some bloodworms tonight. I'd love to get him on market shrimp.

Thanks for the replies!

he'll warm up dont worry. give him a little more time, and im betting once he gets a little bigger he'll be out alot during the day. my rtc used to hide all the time, but now hes out 24/7 and when i walk in the room starts swimming around like he wants to play.
