I transport mine in a 5 gallon bucket with a battery operated pump. I put the fish and water in a tank and add tap water a little bit at a time over a couple days.
Acclimating Native Fish to Tank

I just recently added a SMB to my native tank . this is how i aaclimated him .
1) bring as much water as possible home with the fish
2) then i slowly added a couple of cups of tank water to the new fish temporary home
i did this about every ten minutes or so for a couple hours .
3) added the new monster to the tank with some of the water he was in .
this worked out well for me , hope this helps
