Hi Guys,

Could someone give me some accurate info on these cats? Ive read arond about them but the info is all different and conflicts with eachother. So I dont know what to believe. If you have owned them and have experience please share things like:

Max size
Water conditions (PH, Hardness, Temp)
Temperment

and anything else you could add. Thx

I've never owned one, but I've been reading up on them as well because I too am thinking about getting one. Did you look up the fish at Planetcatfish.com?

I would like to hear some real world info on these cats as well.

Yeah, ive looked at several sites. All of them conflict eachother. Max size is different, even PH and Temp are all different. Some say its aggressive against its own kind, and others say they like their own kind. I also notice some sites basically copy info from another site, because it appears the same word for word. So I dont like to trust the web all the time, I have to ask people who've had personal experience with this fish.

I've noticed the same thing also that websites often copy each other or have different info. I was thinking that the Jaguar Catfish may do fine in a neutral PH, but there are other sites that say it should be in a PH of 6.5 or lower. I'm not so sure I could properly care for this fish so maybe I should find another catfish for my 55.

Im sure the 55 is to small for a jag is you meant to keep it in there for life...

I dont think a 55 is too small. They are a medium size cat. I estimate they would grow to 7-9 inch. Someone was telling me the water conditions werent crucial, that they would adapt.

Just wanna make sure though, I feel uneasy when info is conflicting eachother.

i have kept jaguar catfish before, they are an amazon fish so a ph of between 6.2 and 7 is ok, they will mainly sit under a log all day and not move until the lights go out, they will eat pretty much anything but only when the lights are out so put food in last before lights out, they are ok with smaller fish to about 2", they will up root plants in the night and need lots of hiding places, and will get white spot easily and water parameters have to be fairly good as dnt like ammonia at all,
