yea idk what i wanna do just yet. i went to the lfs and talked more. they are still convinced that a 125 is fine.... idk how i feel about that. did ask about ordering a school of limas so that may happen they are on the list this week. and seems like a better idea. plus i like breeding fish and may be a fun one to try in a 75 gallon. there theory is that a solo achara will just sit there untill feeding time and if i got a bigger tank i would be mad to just have it chill in one corner... which is very true lol. idk you guys have more exp. keeping these year rather than weeks or months. the little guy sure is cute with a full belly. also im on the ground floor for a reason.... lol

Well Achara's get 30"+ long and I can't see them being able to turn around easily like that. I think the Limas are a much better option. But since yours is a perruno which only get 20"-24", the issue is their whiskers. When a catfish whiskers can touch. Both sides of the glass it's bad for the fish.

Good call. 125 gal is barely enough for a 1' fish... not for a 2'-3' achara (usually max out at 2'-2.5' with an even longer maxillary barbels span, which is indeed important as ColeFishing points out).

Sorubim lima or any Sorubim species for that matter (http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/genus.php?genus_id=44#989 - click on any photo or name to see the datasheet) has never been bred in captivity. You will be up against big odds... but a school of them is quite a sight.

well that fish ended up getting messed up, eyes eaten out, not cool...... went to my lfs and ended up picking up a 8 inch pictus have never saw one so large. man he is sweet hopefully he will be as sweet as my achara. RIP buddy. also buying a 220 in the next week or so because i purchased an nice 4 inch arowana.

Sorry about your achara/perruno. Good look with your pictus. Get him a few buddies as they are a schooling species. And good luck with your arowana. They are really cool fish.
