What glue do you guys like the best for making/repairing acrylic tanks? I'd like to hear from someone that works at a tank mfg. or runs a fish matinence buisness to see what their thoughts are.
I run my own buisness in Industrial Design and I make/repair tanks for quite a few customers. I've used weld-on #4,#16, and #40 depending on the job and how much money the customer is willing to spend.
In my personal opinion I would never build myself a tank that wasent constructed with weld on #40. I have sold tanks and made many repairs with #4/#16 and they've been holding for years but that doesn't mean its the best glue for the job. Even after these glues are used for a build i would still reinforce the seams with #40. It took me a long time to find the right solution and i'm just sharing that information from personal experience on the job. Once you use #40 its easy to see the capabilites of this product and the true way pieces/sheets of acrylic are meant to be joined/re-inforced. Are #4 and #16 useless products? No! hah, They are great when used in the right situation. For a everyday repairman on MFK #40 will exceed all your needs and come out looking good. Comments welcome!
