Nice keep us posted when you get it. Just curious what sump are you getting and are they plumbing or are you?

I am getting a Tsunami Reef Sump. 42x16x18. They are providing all of the materials to plumb (bulkheads, hosing, drains, clamps, etc), but I’ll be the one actually hooking everything up.

Yes please share as much as you are willing to share. I imagine there are more sump options that what is shown on website under tank options?


What did you decide on stand material? I was thinking about creating a thread eventually about whether the aluminum option is worth the premium price.

The tank is 96x36x30. Went with oak stand and canopy and decided against the aluminum stand. They even mentioned that it’s probably unnecessary unless you really feel like you need the extra support. Since I’m getting the tank and stand through them I don’t need the aluminum frame for the warranty that they mention.

Here is a quick sketch of the design. Doing dual trapezoid overflows each with four bulkheads (2drain, 2return) for a total of 4 each. Will also have locking lids to keep my aro from jumping out

Ok, since I’ve got 8 weeks to wait for my tank I’ve got another dilemma... Soft or Hard plumbing for the sump?

I tend to lean towards hard plumbing, but given the wait I’ve got, I really want to get water ready as quickly as possible to get the fish (Aro in particular) out of the 90 grow out.

The sump package I bought comes with hoses, clamps, barbs, bulks, drains etc, so I’m entertaining just keeping it soft plumbing for ease of setup and speed to water.

Thoughts?

I advice people to g for acrylic for 100+ gallon size.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice. I ended up buying the 400 gallon acrylic tank today. Looking forward to it, these 8 weeks or so are going to take forever

You can't just say you bought a 400 gallon without telling us what your plans for stocking is, that's like letting it slip that you own a $50,000,000 house and not showing pictures of it.

So, what are ya plans?

It looks like this will be a long term tank and chances are you wont do it again. I'm bias for hard plumbing and you're right it does take longer. I recently did it a few months ago and glad I took the time. Nothing wrong with soft I just like the sexy pvc plumbing lol.

Lol! Well some of it is the ability to keep our current fish long-term. We currently have a Silver Arowana, Kelberi Peacock Bass, and a Clown Knifefish all of which will move into the new tank.

Thinking about adding another Kelberi, a Bucharest (Endichleri or Ornate) and Pike of some kind

Yeah, I had been doing hard plumbing on our other tank project I had to abandon. Would love to do hard plumbing again, but a little concerned about the cramped space my fish are now since this is adding nearly 3 months to my previous timeline. That along with the fact the sump system is coming with soft connections are the main reason I’m seriously considering going with soft to get things going fast.
