I want to get a bigger tank, soon. I have a 125 and I want to double it , or more.:naughty: What should I try to get, and where ? The only reason I don't have a bigger tank yet is because I can't find one locally. I mean, for less than a couple grand.
Any suggestions on the glass vs. acrylic would be greatly appreciated.

IMO acrylic isnt really worth the extra cost.
acrylic pros: strong, light (who cares when you're filling it with 2000 lbs of water), can be drilled and repaired fairly easily.
acrylic cons: SCRATCHES EASILY, harder to repair a split seam

Glass pros: easier to clean, doesnt scratch easily, more open top, and easier to fix if it springs a leak.
glass cons: (heavy (once again, who cares when its full of water), more difficult to drill and repair scratches.

it does make a difference when your tank itself weighs a ton and you add another ton of water, plus gravel and decorations you got about another half ton right there.

some floors cant even support that weight so with a lighter tank your cut weight almost in half with a very large glass tank, you might even cut the weight in half if you go bare bottom.

and if a seam splits then your got a really ****ty tank manufactuer, seams are molecularly bonded making them stronger than the acrylic itself, so if dont right, your good for life.

and they dont scratch that easily, i ran my nail across my tank one and no damage was done :), if people are that concerned about the scratches, especially the ones you see when your empty and dry a tank then im sorry, you have a bad case of OCD  :grinyes:

That made my laugh. Thanks Del, I was having a bad day.

A couple hunred pounds doesnt mean much at all when you're talking about 2400 pounds of water that will be inside of it. If the floor cant support a couple hundred extra pounds I would be afraid to stand next to the tank!
