Acrylic or Glass ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i agree with rallysman, until they come down in price (and i dont know why they would) then i'd still go with glass. plus there are a few plecs that like to make craters in acrylic!

Rhome, that near Dallas? How does $495 for a 240g (long) 96"x24"x25" glass tank sound, here is a pic, they are from glasscages, http://www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=2 They have a show coming up in Dallas in July, otherwise you pay truck shipping.

thats what i thought, but i'm sure one of the comm. sellers had mentioned it had happened to them. they do scratch it with there teeth though, thats for sure

I actually contacted glasscages in the last day or 2, and asked for a quote on a 180wide or 240 long (same dimensions as their glass counter parts) and they told me, they won't even give me a price, cause they don't recomend using acrylic for display tanks, and only suggust using acrylic for holding tanks, and sumps.....
wow....guess they don't want the extra money after all... who was I kidding when I wanted to spend more money for something more durable...

maybe the person you talked to was either lazy or they get more money out of glass and easier to make. their are pros and cons on both glass and acrylic. but it really depends on your wallets capability and your preference. i like acrylic, my 180 can be carried by 2 people only. yes, you don't usually carry your tank everyday but when it comes you need to move it.. if you don't have any friends to help you and you end up getting some guys to help you... i think the $$ would be almost the same. it's all up to the buyer's choice.:)

with scratches... acrylic can be scatched easily with hairline scatches almost unoticable... unless you clean your tank with a steel brush maybe you need a glass tank. with regards to saltwater tanks, i don't know about that. who cares... the one they are looking at is the fish and the whole set up not the tiny scatches on the bottom or side of the tank.:)

buy the one that satisfies you the most not the one that will make you regret.:grinyes:

They only stock up to 135g in acrylic. Nice prices on their glass though.

yeah, thats why i talked to someone there. They say available in other sizes and custom builds, just ask... and thats what I got....

That made my laugh. Thanks Del, I was having a bad day.

A couple hunred pounds doesnt mean much at all when you're talking about 2400 pounds of water that will be inside of it. If the floor cant support a couple hundred extra pounds I would be afraid to stand next to the tank!

Agree with you.
