There is no going back now, the overflow is out with a little help from a rotozip.

Boy howdy, that came out pretty clean. I'd be tempted to cut a piece of acrylic and put a patch right inside the old overflow box area. Is that a small square hole?

Thats what I had originaly had in mind putting a patch on the inside of where the overflow was but-- I would like to have a little overlapping the tank bottom around all of the holes maybe an inch all the way around the bottom. From here I think I am going to router the tank bottom flush then put the overlapping patch.

LOL Thanks !

I am SO glad I came across this. I just finished a conversation in general aquaria section in this forum about a tank on cl I am looking at buying, likely will, and it has a center overflow. I really would prefer it not too lol. I will be following this one closely.

Glad you found it, Maybe we will both learn how to do this LOL

This may be a dumb question but were you going to put the acrylic patch over the hole on the inside of the tank ( with a little overhang ) or just slide a piece into the hole you cut and silicone it in place, or even both?I had thought about it for the one I will be picking up this weekend . I thought about trying to do both just for peace of mind but not sure if it would be worth it

Today is the first of three days for me so I might actually get something done on the tank. I am planning to place a 1/2" cell cast acrylic patch over the 4 round holes and the 1 square hole with a 2" overhang on all sides. I would like to router a radius on the outside top of the patch so there are no square or sharp corners. Then flip the tank over and patch the holes from the bottom using acrylic plugs that fit the holes as best as I can.
First I am going to call Tenecor and see what they suggest, I could be way off on how to patch this. The sides are 5/8" thick and they hold so I would think 2" overlap is way overkill as well as plugging the holes from the bottom.
