Acrylic tank holding too much heat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Aquarium Coop had a livestream about this. I'll find it later.

The one tip I got that helped was to use a small fan for evaporative cooling as stated in a reply above. A small usb fan blowing on the water keeps my tank a few degrees cooler. If I were at home I'd take a pic to show how small the fan is the small area it's blowing on.

This is the old stream where I originally got the cooling fan idea:

This is a recent episode for Cory about it:

I just got home. This is the mid third section of a 125g, 6 feet long. I put the bottle of beer there for reference. This is enough to keep my tank a few degrees cooler.

This system works great for me. The temp controller can be set to heat or cool. I set it to turn on around 80. I put this set of fans above one overflow blowing out and the other overflow on the other side of the tank is open so air is sucked in. I keep all the covers closed so the total surface area is exposed to the air flow. Additionally, in my opinion, this increases gas exchange between the water and the air. I actually consider it another form of filtering the water. I know this because at times the room stinks when the fan kicks on lol. That’s why I built a dedicated sealed off fish room! I’m actually in the process of putting a ceiling fan in my fish room kinda like a bathroom exhaust fan.
