Acrylic tank owners who use sand/gravel

Do you know how muh 600 gallon of glass tank weight ? plus at that size, the glass will have slightest green tint and not too mention there's always a possibility of glass breaking or seam separating.

Don't get me wrong, I hate scratches with all my heart, all my tank to this day are all BRAND NEW glass..(240 is the largest), but my 600 is an acrylic...600 glass just scares me..

Besides, it's not that easy to scratch an acrylic..with my experience ( I have a 20 gal acrylic tank that i use as experience with sand, magnetic cleaner and etc) you really have to scratch it...normal cleaning is just the same.

As with glass, when using magnetic cleaner, you need to be careful with scrylic as well

my tank is scratched from the sand the rays do push it up the side its minimal and u cant really tell unless you look hard
its worth it imo the sand makes it look so much better imo

with a 600 i can kinda understand
still would prefer glass

i will be finding out myself with a 480gal blk bottom on mine don't know if i will go bare bottom or substrate. my tops on my tubs are acyclic and scratched all over makes me nervous but when you go big you have to go acyclic.

I've used gravel on acrylic and haven't noticed any scratches. I'm not sure about sand.

the tank is a 780 gallon so it has to be acrylic cause I do prefer glass as well... i will end up doing some sand but not enough to fill it.. For the most part the rays will have it always pushed towards the middle...

yeah theyll push it all if not m ost towards the middle what i do is toss in live blackworms all the time and the rays will flatten out the sand again by searching for the worms

The Acrylic tank in my house has been in service for 3yrs with sand of all types in it. I have had rays, plecos, electric cats, large silver dollars...no scratches from the inhabitants activities.

It came with scratches that I buffed out using a scratch remover kit from Foster and Smith. I went big and used an automotive buffer with the compound the kit provided. It took me 8 hours to remove the scratches that came with the tank (i'm kinda "a**l" retentive about certain things).

The only new scratches are from my own carelessness, not the activity of the inhabitants. Not from the sand within the tank.

Go for it.
