Ok so I know there are tons of threads on this but when planning a large tank I'd rather start my own thread about it. Ok so I'm planning on building a L shaped tank but with a 45 degree angle instead of a 90. I am going to use 3 48x96 pieces of acrylic and I want to use 1" sense I have found a manufacturer close to me that makes it for 1/2 the price It will be ether 50 or 60" deep. The window will have a 4" contact area with the frame on the top and bottom and a 3" on both sides. I have seen tanks 48" tanks on here with 1" acrylic but I just wanted to see what ppl who know more than me would think

Most aquarium calculators will tell you 1.9", including mine.

ok thanks. didnt know if it was different for a actual 40" window with that much overlay. Sorry I cant use those calculators on my Ipad. can you use 1" with a 3' height

Well, with 4" overlap on both sides. 88 x 40 would be 1.63"

36" height would be 1.39"

these calculators tend to go to the high side.

I would use glass instead for various reasons but in regards to your question 1" is not thick enough. I would go with 2" to have a nice safety factor.

Ya I wouldn't want my big cats breaking threw it lol. I just wanted to c what I could do with 1" sense a full sheet is only $430 a piece at the only acrylic manufacturer anywhere near me and that is as thick as they go. Thanks guys

There was a place I once emailed that had a two inch thick sheet of four by eight for $1300 dollars and they had shipping in the US for $200 bucks to move the giant clear beast from their factory.

well if Im going to spend big $$ on a acrylic sheet Im going to get a much larger piece that 4x8. I do things one of 2 ways. Ether cheap. Or All in. I really don't half ass stuff.
