Acrylic vs Glass

If you can get a great deal on acrylic..go for it. That shouldn't even be an issue or hestiation.:grinno:

Aside from what was stated about acrylic and its qualites as opposed to glass, the only MAJOR factor is price.

Glass is cheaper..plain and simple. If you're finances limits you, go with glass, but as you stated, you can get a good deal on acrylic. So what are you waiting for? Jump on it before someone else does! :WHOA:

:iagree: If you already have a deal set up, then get the 150 Acryllic. Even if it has a scratch or two, you can buff that out and your tank will look awesome.

There are a couple of discussions on this if you hit the search buttons you'll probably find long lengthy arguments. I dont really have a preference as i take care of my tanks, so as long as it will hold my fish im happy. Just take whatevers cheap!

i'm a complete acrylic convert at this point.

i've owned large glass tanks in the past and had avoided acrylic mainly due to cost. i had a friend who purchased a 180 acrylic for 200 bucks that was pretty scratched up. he found a lfs that offered a refurbishing service for acrylic tanks. he paid another 300 dollars and had what looked like a brand new 180gl acrylic tank.

i then scoured the recycler for a large tank and found a 240gl acrylic tank, black back, dual overflows/stand/canopy for 500 bucks. i got it all for 400, had the tank refurbished for another 200, built my own stand and canopy for another 300. i basically have a brand new 240gl acrylic tank/stand/canopy for 900 dollars a bit of elbow grease.

unless i'm doing a monster 1000 gallon plus tank i will never buy a tank retail again.

I hate acrylic. No matter how hard you try to keep it nice it scratches.........it may weigh less, but WHO CARES?! When it's full of water it makes no difference at all. None.

my 300 acrylic distorts view MUCH more than my glass tank. The front bows out and it's scratched. It's also a huge pain in the ass to maintain because of the tiny holes in the top. I'm seriously considering selling it and getting another 265 glass.

Glass for me from now on (unless it's freakishly large)

Basically it all boils down to personal preference. I have my coolest fish in my 300 and have given up on taking pictures of them.

I suggest a search of the forums, as there have been several discussions on this topic
