I join this page to learn so i can build my 8x4x4 Tank . I need your Help in find the best way to Get to my goal. My tank needs to look great Cause it is going in my living room. So please post you DIY tanks To Help me Make my Mind up.
Acrylic VS. Plywood Post your Tanks

If its going into your livin room. Go with acrylic. Not much mess and extremely light. Because of the 4ft hight. I would prolly go with .75" acrylic?
plexi is much stronger than glass, and more impact resistance, much lighter... but it may scratch (only bad thing). dont be suprised if your acrylic bows out from pressure (given you go with acrylic) oh and plexi is more costly but in my opinion worth it.
I had a glass 30g break because a small vase rolled into it, i watched and didnt even think it would break it. there went 30g on the floor and fish living in a bucket.
but if you use plywood, go with glass youl only have one breakable surface so much less risk, and if your using wood to save cost than use glass for the same reason.

At least 1", NO LOWERand that glass..., you can make a 4'tall look great with a plywood tank... but its still going to cost you..., is this a ground level living room, IE on concreet?, if not then forget it, if you have besement you will need to either have steel I-beams instlled or 12' wide concreet pillers poured...,
Your tank is going to weigh about 9839.83 lb so say 10000lb, that 312pounds per sq. foot..., your floor is made to take MAYBE 50...
Even if you wanted to put it in your besement your going to have to pour a new 4"-5" rebar reinforced foundation to be safe and prevent cracking... \

WHY do people cheap out when it comes to seftey?, i know that there arnt any laws for fish tanks but sometimes there should be to protect people, I understand budgets im on one too but if i cant build it safe i wait till i can, thats just me.

That is why I am asking to find what i should do to build it right . I want 900gal of water pour out of the tank,Almost as much as I want cancer
