has anyone here heard of using activated carbon as a substrate? My LFS said it would keep the tank contaminate free and very clean. I was wondering if anyone else had heard this. I think its a bit much but i might try it with a cheap fish like a guppy or tetra or something just to see if it has any affect. Tell me what you think itll do or even if itll work at all. lol

bump... i dont think itll work i think itll kill the fish and be an epic fail. What does everyone else think?

I've heard that when you use carbon for to long, it releases tanins back into the tank. I don't see this being very cost effective, you would have to keep replacing it a lot.

I agree with the above post. You will be wasting alot of money to have to constantly replace the old carbon. The LFS is probally just trying to make a profit out of you.

good ideas... yeah ill ask them and see what they say. I thought it would kill the fish and i guess i was right in the long term. Thanks lol i think most LFS are screwed up anyway.
