Activated carbon opinions please.

it weird when you buy certain filters they always come with a bag of carbon. IMO, there is no need for it unless you just medicated you tank and want to get rid of the med or if your water is dirty and want to clear it up.
it just seems like there are too many cons compared to pro for me to use them regularly. i still have unopen bag full of carbon that i get when i purchase aquaclear filters.

all 5 of the AC 110s i have running have carbon and as soon as i can im taking them all out. but i have never had a problem. im going with the biospheres like guppy says, but i guess Im lucky that nothing bad has happened with my tanks.
