is it a good idea to add carbon in the filter with discus ??

i will be doing WC every other day..but i do have a huge piece of driftwood, which release tannin...thats why im thinking about adding carbon..

The tanning from your drift wood could take up to 6 weeks to go away depending on how big it is. The carbon will not do anything for that. Also discus and many other fish like that colouring in the water.

carbon will not harm the discus. it will help soften the water.

It will not harm the discus but you simply don't need it. Haven't used carbon in any of my tanks in years. With the rate at which you are doing water changes, the tannins should clear up pretty quickly. Your fish will like the tannins. No worries.

I don't keep discus but have heard from two different breeders that carbon will burn their skin and to stay away from it. Don't know why it would or how they know this but the swear to stay away from it.

They are many myths associated with carbon and discus. The bottom line is there is no reason to use it. If you are doing proper water changes, there is little to nothing for the carbon to absorb from the water anyway.
