those articles bring me back to my university days..lots of chemistry, kinetics etc.
in fact, the first reference they use (Alberts et al, Molecular Biology of the Cell) is still sitting on my bookshelf LOL..
interesting stuff. although quite technical. back in my hayday I would have a much easier time going through all that hehe..but not now..
however, it does appear that their conclusion that organics can leach back out was, in their words, "tentative".
what surprised me about that was the amount of time that passed before the organics leached back out- only a matter of hours..
in an aquarium, you have bacteria that colonize substrates, GAC included, that can have effects on bound organics. eg. it is known that bacteria will break down bound ammonia bonded to ammo chips.
perhaps something similar could occur with GAC? problem is, this study was based on a model, of course, not the real situtation, which makes it sometimes difficult to fully extrapolate the conclusions as they apply to the real life situtation.
