active bichir

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've found that the senegals are the key to the activity of my other polys. when they are really active my del and ornate join in. lower jaws are much less active so any upper jaws (senegals, del, ornates, palmas, weeksii etc) would be the choice for you if you want really active polys.

My senegal is deffinately the most active, but my delhezi....laziest bichir ever. Just burries itself in the sand and chills....Anne I might have to try adding another bichir to try to get him active (or just as an excuse to get another poly!)

My brief experience (so far) with bichirs seems to back up the multiple-tankmates theory. When the wife and I got the first two (albino senegal) we kept them in separate tanks (We each have our own aquaria). Once her barbs started harrassing her bichir, she put it in the tank with mine. After that, they went from just floating and hanging out at the surface of the tank underneath the duckweed, to exploring the tank quite a bit. Then we added the two normal senegals and MAN! They're everywhere now, all four of them!
