So pretty soon I am going to be upgrading to a 125g (Yes I already have the tank). I am going to have a mixture of silver dollars (regular, wide bar, thing bar) and my polypterus. I want to put an active (at least one that doesn't hide) odd ball in the tank. I was originally thinking a royal knife, but with the silver dollars that too much silver and black. Any suggestions? I was thinking a tiger or zebra or ghost knife but was afraid they would hide too much. This tank will be upgraded, but no time soon so please take that into account with the suggestions. Thank you

Black ghost knives hide too much. Synodontis cats are definitly oddballs, maybe look into them? Brown ghost knives are also oddballish, and don't hide as much as black ghost knives, although they are kind of dull.

I am plan on adding more polypterus, but can't really rely on them to be active. Was thinking about a larger ghost, but wasn't sure if it would be active and if it would be hard to feed. Also take non odd ball suggestions as well. Thanks for the input

larger ghost knives hide less often in my experience

Probably because they don't have a hiding spot to accomadate them. I mean most knife fish will get used to their tank eventually and will come out more often. But rarely, if ever, will you find one who won'y hide every once in awhile. the reason you dont see 24" clown knives hiding in huge tanks is because usually there isn't a hiding spot big enough for them to fit into.

Agreed. Knifes look so amazing IMO, but they are always hiding. My 7" clown knife is hiding all the time except for feeding time... And he is a joy to watch hunting.
