Just spent the last 2 hours trying to catch my 4" Jewel and 4" Texas Cichlids in the 150 to move them to a quarantine tank. Had no luck with the decor in the tank so all that had to be removed. Then had to drain the tank to half full. Using 2 nets (one big one small) managed to get the Jewel almost straight away but it was a bloody nightmare catching the Texas. The other fish in the tank were crapping themselves and are now all at risk from a whole load of diseases due to the stress. The Texas himself has been going mental swimming like mad around the quarantine, although has chilled out a little bit now. I hope they will all be alright. I love fishkeeping, but i hate really hate catching little fish in a big tank...nightmare!:irked:

What are your thoughts on this?

Agreed. There is one rock in my tank that weighs so much for me to be able to lift it out so it has to stay no matter what. I have yet to be able to catch my BN plecos in my 150 because of this. All the other guys have no problem, but these two??:hitting:

well my thoughts for you are this

CHILL EAT A BAON SANDWICH muhahahhahahhahah

JUST KIDDING

ok seriously now

When I net fish out, the first thing I do is take out all the decor. I just sold 4 fish to someone tonight from my 300g. I look at it in this way, I will use the chance where I am netting out my fish to move the sand, do a good vacumn, and remake the tank. After all the fish who are staying in the tank deserve a reward for my messing with their world.

I also bang the tank with conditioner to take care of any added contaminent, then I do a 50% wc just for good measure.

So yeh I don't sell a lot of my fish from my tanks. Though for the fish I am going to sell the tank is pretty much very little decor.

But the bacon sandwich is very rewarding to eat later

I had a bichir that would rather swim into my hand than be netted, and I was half willing to comply with her philosophy, except she was spiky and I didn't want to get hurt.

But yeah, I hate netting fish, I feel so sorry for them, all scared and annoyed and stuff, it's rather rough.

I use my hand and coax them into the net which i'm holding with my other hand, works most of the time unless they're deciding to be little buggers about it.

my habit is to get them in the net and then use my hand to transfer them, they usually calm down and the transfer is usually only a few inches into a container to get them to the travel container.

I have found that with a net fish will rub off their slime coat, get fins stuck so I prefer to use my hand which is also why in many of my pics where I am showing off the fish they are in my hand. My larger fish I usually transfer in a container which then gets floated and dumped into the tank.

i hate netting also

ive learned to corner a fish into a corner very slowly. they will give up pretty quick once they realize there is no escape

try netting a 24" ray.... NOT fun
